Skian McGuire
an_gadhar@yahoo.com Skian McGuire is a working-class Irish-American who lives in the wilds of western Massachusetts with his dog pack, a collection of motorcycles, and his former partner of 22 years. He is a writer and poet whose work often touches on his spiritual condition as a Quaker and his experience as a member of the leather community since 1980. In the scene, Skian is butch, switchable, ambisexual and polyamorous, versatility being his watchword. He has been a presenter at Dark Odyssey on topics relating to writing as well as monotheism and, most recently, on the uniform fetish. He especially likes to play with knives. Genderqueer since birth, he is currently in the process of transition from female to male. Skian’s fiction has appeared in a number of anthologies, including Best Lesbian Erotica, Best Bisexual Erotica 2, the Big Book of Erotic Ghost Stories, as well as webzines such as Blithe House Quarterly, Suspect Thoughts, Scarlet Letters, and Nest o’Vipers, and print periodicals including On Our Backs and HLFQ. A collection of his work – Remote Control and other Weegee Stories – was published in chapbook form by Top Dog Press. Skian’s poetry, usually heard from slam stages in Boston, has appeared in the Lammy-nominated collection I Do/I Don’t: Queers on Marriage and in the anthology Pinned Down by Pronouns. His chapbook, LoveSexGod&Everything, published by Top Dog Press, won the 2003 Cambridge Poetry Award for best publication. He is the founder and editor of The Shadow Sacrament, an on-line journal of sex and spirituality.
