About Raven's Clothing – from Raven himself
I'm a northern-tradition shaman, and most of the
outfits here are part of my ritual clothing. The big white coat is my
frost-giant coat, made of Icelandic wool and Icelandic sheepskin, and
I'm holding a reindeer antler; the other tunic and skirt is embroidered
with runes for ritual purposes, and you can see my shaman-drum, with the
Nine Worlds and the World Tree painted on it.
In the set of pictures with my boy Joshua, I'm wearing my leather jacket
with the attached animal furs - this is a special coat to me, partly
because it was a gift from a former lover, and partly because it is what
I wear when I speak for the transgender Dead every year on our Day of
Mourning. The black yarn that hangs ragged from its epaulets comes from
the Day of Mourning ritual, where we call the names of those
transgendered people who have been murdered in the last few decades, and
cut the black yarn - handspun by me - that symbolizes their lives. I add
a new strand every year.
I am an odd sort of spirit-worker, bridging the gap between ancient
tradition and modern needs. I walk between many different worlds, and
wear different hats, but I am always with the spirits wherever I end up
going.
