Boston Dungeon Society Munch report

The Munch of the Boston Dungeon Society on October 9th was easy to find. When I found out that I was to be working for the week in the metro area of Boston I opened the weekly mail from our own Sadie and scrolled down to BDS listing then opened the web site up. Low and behold there it was a calendar with the 9th listed as the Munch date. So, using the information I sent out an e-mail to a woman I have been talking to via a group mail list and ask her about it as well.. She gave me a bit of an over view and talked briefly about Mentor the group founder.

With this information and knowing Boston just a bit I decided to make my way to the T and head into town after work. The ride on the Red line brought me to the Green line for the short ride across the river to Cambridge and a short two block walk to the Mall. Located on the river with a small man made bay the multi story Mall has a food court on the ground level over looking this neatly kept bay with a huge expanse of glass to look into or out of the Mall.

I quickly figured out where the Munch was from the note I had with me and from just looking in from the outside where the group of people, mostly in black were sitting and standing along one long table on a lower seating area next to the glass. Went in and was getting myself an iced coffee when the woman I had contacted walked in and went to the group. As I was being served she had found her way to my side and greeted me by name. We gathered up some food at the chines food place and joined the group. I introduced myself as people looked my way and was soon involved in conversation with most of the people at some point in the evening.

I for one feel very at home with people in our life so talking with this group of people was natural. All were good natured and I was not the only "new" to the munch. A man from Israel recently moved to the area was also there. We talked in general, talked about the goings on of a man that has caused a lot of problems for people there including things the ended with the closing of the only "open to the public" play area some year before.

I also ended up talking with a Dom that was in active play when the police walked into the event now known as Paddleboro. So, first hand account has it that the people who were there were to open with 3 tables outside in the hall where people were going, sitting and hanging out in various BDSM garb, and where the famous "jar" of money was in open site. The police were plane close on a routine wonder into the building where the owner of the building had ask them to check out due to theft of items from another tenant.

To put it more into his words.. They came in, looked around a bit and shouted "This is a bust" a number of times.. It was thought by this man at least that these people must be kidding and that it was in very poor taste. After a short time it finally dawned on him and others that the two men were real and things stopped. One of the cops acted in a "very agitated way" all evening and "seemed desperate to find reason for what he had just done." All in all the people were detained for over 4 hours, ID was taken "to be copied at the station" and returned just before they were able to leave. His play bag was taken into evidence and he has chosen not to retrieve it.

His advice is, the police are not out to "get us".. but mistakes were made with the tables outside and people hanging out in the hall. I also talked to a lady that had been invited and would have been there had it not been for another obligation non lifestyle happening at the same time. I have been invited to attend the munch when ever in town and see it as a good thing.

Be yourself and if you click and are the type of person others want to have over when a play party is happening you will end up ask eventually. I will try to attend more events like this one myself as transportation and time allows both in Boston and Albany soon.

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BDSM AND ABUSE: A GUIDE FOR PEOPLE INVOLVED IN CONSENSUAL AND NON-CONSENSUAL BDSM ACTIVITIES

BDSM is an acronym for "Bondage, Discipline, Sado-masochism," terms used by the alternative sexuality community for activities such as Dominance and submission (consensual power play) and other roleplaying games, tying up a partner, spanking, flogging, and a variety of other mutually satisfying, CONSENSUAL activities.

BDSM is not abuse.

Often, BDSM is confused with abuse due to the very nature of its activities. However, the differences, as you will see below, are very profound.

BDSM activities are ALWAYS Safe, Sane and Consensual.

Abuse is NEVER safe, NEVER sane, and NEVER Consensual.

BDSM follows established rules.

Abuse has no rules.

BDSM is always negotiated for the safety of both partners.

Abuse is not negotiated.

BDSM activities are used for mutual pleasure.

Abuse holds pleasure only for the abuser.

In BDSM, the submissive partner uses a ‘safeword’ to stop any activity they do not wish to engage in.

During an Abusive activity, the victim cannot stop what is happening to them.

BDSM activities are not intended to physically or emotionally injure a partner.

Abusers want to hurt their partners physically, emotionally, or both.

BDSM is a loving form of sexual expression.

Abuse is a crime of power and control.

BDSM involves 'aftercare' - hugging, cuddling, and caring.

Abuse involves ‘aftercare’ for bruises, cuts, broken bones, and emotional terror.

BDSM activities NEVER take place in front of children or other family members

Abuse often happens in front of children, family members, and friends.

Practitioners of BDSM never participate in activities while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Abuse often occurs when the abuser has been using drugs or alcohol.

In BDSM, the partners involved give up power voluntarily and temporarily, but ALWAYS maintain their individual rights.

In Abusive relationships, the abuser takes away any rights the victim may have.

Anyone who forces you to participate in BDSM activities against your will IS NOT practicing BDSM!

They are engaging in abuse and/or rape.

BDSM BAD HABITS - HUMOR BY SCHLIMMER (ONE OF R&T'S NEW GUESTS)

Finding myself contacting Rose and Thorn for the first time recently, I found myself examining who I am. I thought maybe I didn’t know anymore. Does this "good boy" really want to be a "bad boy"? Tied up and punished? Into whips and chains? Are there really other people like me out there?…..

So I did some research. I followed players. I observed their actions. I compiled data. What towns do players live in? What music do they listen to? Am I really not alone? I found that I am indeed not alone. After my exhaustive search in bookstores, video stores, music stores, reality offices, meetings, and a host of other places, I came up with the following results. Listed below are common characteristics of us players.

RESIDENCY: During this initial phase, I followed players home from various munches, meetings, and BDSM clubs. In the Northeast, nobody seemed to live in ME for some reason, and most players resided in PA.
